Could Elon Musk really buy MSNBC as easily as picking up a gallon of milk? Imagine the media landscape turned upside down if billionaires whimsically shopped for news networks. This episode ventures into the playful social media banter that sparked this very idea, exploring how such a move could disrupt the traditional media stronghold. We dive into the speculation around MSNBC's struggles with ratings and the hypothetical scenarios of Joe Rogan stepping into the shoes of Rachel Maddow. The potential shake-up leaves us questioning the future of legacy media and how it's losing ground to the rising popularity of podcasts.

As the digital revolution reshapes media consumption, companies like Comcast and CNN are racing to adapt. Discover the strategic maneuvers behind Comcast's creation of SpinCo and CNN's digital pivot under new leadership. We explore the shifts in consumer preferences and what they mean for the traditional media giants. The conversation also addresses the public's declining trust in mainstream outlets, shedding light on Joy Behar's critiques of media credibility. The evolving landscape poses significant challenges for these networks as they strive to remain relevant and influential in an increasingly skeptical world.

While the media industry battles its own tumultuous transition, the episode humorously highlights the billionaire antics that add an extra layer of intrigue to this dynamic narrative. Through speculative insights and a touch of humor, the episode prompts listeners to reflect on where they source their information and the ever-changing nature of media consumption. This thought-provoking discussion might just change the way you perceive the media world and its future.

Speaker 1:

Hey, Ryan. Hi, this is Sarah Palin.

Speaker 2:

Ryan Donald Trump.

Speaker 1:

Jr.

Speaker 2:

Hogs to win. See ya. Hey everybody, I want y'all to check out a fellow Marine's ball camp. My name is Ted Nugent and I got a call from my buddy, ryan F Samuels, and he wants me to tell you that he's a working hard, playing all-American, son of a b--- who is celebrating God family country. Welcome to the Ryan Samuuels show, one of the top political podcasts in the united states, where we have a healthy distrust for government and mainstream media. The ryan samuels show is a raw, unfiltered look at american politics. Follow on facebook, twitter, youtube, rumble and all podcast platforms. Here is your host, ryan samuels hello patriots, welcome to the show.

Speaker 1:

We have some good news today, or potential good news. Right now it's just floating in the atmosphere as a joke, but there is a a very real possibility that elon musk may purchase msnbc. Like I said just now, out in the atmosphere, it's just a joke, elon's playing. Donald trump tweeted him about buying it and elon musk responded with how much does it cost? Which famously that's what he did with twitter right before he purchased it. We've been talking about it on this show for a long time now, since before the election, that msc's.

Speaker 1:

Msnbc's ratings are in the dumpster. They are the worst they have ever been. Uh, rachel Maddow's show is barely getting a million views. Podcasts like this are tripling, doubling, quadrupling the amount of views that Rachel Maddow is getting or Morning Joe is getting, and the network the owner, which is Comcast, does no longer seize any value in the company and is either going to sell it or break it off and spin it off into something else. Now what happens to the people of MSNBC? Well, there is a 98% chance that they're just going to be unemployed and they're going to have nowhere to go. They're going to try to throw themselves into independent media and get on a microphone and try to get people to follow them.

Speaker 1:

The only problem is is that this didn't work out for people before them that tried to do this. For example, don lemon uh left cnn and tried to go out on his own and barely gets a couple of a few thousand views on his videos. He recently famously left twitter. Nobody cared at all. Um, these people do not have a following. The only reason anybody knows who they are is because they're on this network and the network has the following.

Speaker 1:

But the people on the network are not now listening to what they have to say. The world is melting down for the legacy media. That should totally just be done. That should totally just be done. It's in its twilight years. We're going to send them out on an iceberg and just say goodbye, see you later. It was wonderful knowing you Put them out in a retirement home somewhere and forget that they exist. So thanks for tuning in.

So this meme is going around calling it MXNBC, which I think would be hilarious and awesome if Elon Musk purchased it and called it MXNBC and then put a variety of shows on there, like Tucker Carlson or Alex Jones. I think would be hilarious. Here is a video that is circling the internet which is just the funniest thing I think I've ever seen of Rachel Maddow seeing the meme of Elon Musk buying MSNBC.

Speaker 3:

Oh, hold on To at least three.

Speaker 1:

Put up the graphic of this and lead us not into temptation I think I'm gonna have to hand this off.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, sorry, that does it for us tonight. We'll see you again tomorrow.

Speaker 1:

Now, that's the best video you'll ever see. Unfortunately, that's not real. Uh, that's a clip from an old segment she did on Donald Trump's immigration policy. However, that's still some incredibly funny stuff. But the American people are no longer listening to mainstream media. They're listening to podcasts, and thank you all of you so much for the support on this show and making it what it has become to this day.

Speaker 1:

So what is the future of media? I think that is one of the main and biggest questions of our time. We've only ever had legacy media in the United States in terms since the television. Now you have the Federal Communications Commission. You have these government entities that regulate these outlets. But now what? Right now, the podcasts? They're really not regulated, but I can promise you that is where it is going and that is the. That is where it is going and that is something that we all need to keep our our our eyes on. Right it, the, the, the reason that they're shutting down. People are pulling from their um. People are pulling their funding from msnbc. They're pulling their funding from CNN because it's not working. They couldn't get Kamala elected, they don't have the juice that they once had and it is not ending well for the legacy media. So what are you going to see? I'll tell you exactly what we're going to see. We are going to see a push towards podcasts. We're going to see more mainstream podcasts coming in and they're going to just start moving out this legacy media, and it's not going to go anywhere.

Speaker 1:

Here is an article from Vanity Fair on Elon Musk musing about buying MSNBC. How much does it cost? I mean, imagine having that kind of money where you could just sit back and someone's like oh, this news station I hate is for sale, how much does it cost? I'll just buy it, like I'm going to the grocery store and getting a gallon of milk. Elon Musk, the billionaire who heads up SpaceX, tesla and X, is considering, according to a slew of memes shared on his social media platform this weekend, adding another company to the portfolio MSNBC. This is a tweet from Donald Trump Jr. Hey, at Elon Musk, I have the funniest idea ever. Donald Trump Jr wrote on X Friday a top of post that said the news network MSNBC was for sale. How much does it cost? Musk replied, adding minutes later the most entertaining outcome, especially if ironic, is most likely with a laughing emoji. He had said this about Dogecoin a while ago. Okay, the post came after the news Wednesday of MSNBC's parent company, comcast, is looking to spin the network off into a new entity that would house MSNBC, cnbc, usa Network, oxygen E, syfy and Golf Channel. While it's unclear what the future of MSNBC could look like under Comcast's new strategy, that didn't stop Musk and those in orbit from running the idea that the billionaire would acquire the left-leaning network.

Speaker 1:

The Daily Wire's Michael Knowles replied to Donald Trump Jr's post. If you guys need a replacement from Rachel Maddow, I know a guy, podcaster, joe Rogan, chimed in and also offering to take the place of Rachel Maddow, msnbc's leading anchor, who has been a journalist for two decades A journalist, you know, it's a little ironic. You call Rachel Maddow a journalist and not just somebody who reads a script. If you buy MSNBC, I would like Rachel Maddow's job. I will wear the same outfit and glasses and I will tell the same lies. I will wear the same outfit and glasses and I will tell the same lies. How amazing would this be? Musk answered with a star emoji deal. Musk replied again a couple hours later fire emoji, rocket emoji laughing emoji.

Speaker 1:

Trump rapped to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, with former Republican presidential hopeful, vivek Ramasamy, spent the day or so sharing memes about the potential acquisition, including multiple about Maddow individually. The years really fly by. Musk captioned a meme entitled the Evolution of Rachel Maddow. Is featured images from her from 1990 to 2020 and 2024. Is a businessman, mark cuban? This must. This meme gets me the most. This one right here where elon musk praying, trying not to uh buy msnbc, and it's a lady bent over with MSNBC logo on her rear end. This, ladies and gentlemen, would be the greatest paradox in American history. It would be the funniest karma that ever happened.

Speaker 1:

Now Rachel Maddow, who is famous just for no reason, makes $30 million per year. Rachel Maddow works. Her show is only on Mondays, it's not like she's there every day. And she makes $30 million a year. That's like half a million dollars an episode. That's like half a million dollars an episode. Now, in order to survive. This is the huffington post rachel maddow reportedly taking massive pay cut at msnbc as worries loom over shake up, so she had to take a 30 million dollar pay cut.

Speaker 1:

Oh, what was me, poor rachel. No, rachel, no. Msnbc needed to keep the anchor after parent company comcast announcement plans to spin off several nbc universal channels. One executive said, msnbc's rachel maddow has reportedly agreed to take a far lesser amount than her 30 million a year. As worries loom among msnbc staff after parent company comcast revealed its plan to spin off several mb mbc universal channels, including that network, into a new company.

Speaker 1:

Maddow, who has been msnbc since 2008, renegotiated her deal with the network and is set to take $25 million annually for the next five years. $25 million, that's $125 million for five years. So this massive pay cut is $5 million. Oh no, what will you do with the other $25 million? Executives told the outlet that Maddow has been ratings viagra for msnbc and the network needed to keep her amid an uncertain time. Maybe you should try. If she is ratings viagra and rachel maddow really brings all of these people to your network, I don't know. Maybe try putting her on five days a week, have her show every night, every day, keep people coming back every day, but she's really not ratings Viagra. Nobody puts any stake in Rachel Maddow. The only people that do are the far left lunatics who believe in imaginary realities.

Speaker 1:

Comcast plan, which is set to take about a year, would create a company called SpinCo to house a number of assets, including MSNBC, cnbc, e Golf Channel, oxygen and SyFy the assets set to move to SpinCo generated $7 billion in revenue for the year ending September 30th, according to Comcast. The news of Madhouse pay cut comes as MSNBC staffers are in a panic over the network's future. Msnbc universal chair Mark Lazarus, in a meeting that included Maddow with on-air talent such as Chris Jensen and Katie Turer, told staffers he wasn't sure if MSNBC would have to change its name or headquarters due to the planned spinoff. According to the Post, people don't really know what's going on. They had the election. Holidays are coming up. People are tired and just trying to get through, one source said. An unnamed MSNBC producer in remarks to the rep said staffers are in the dark over what the shakeup means for their outlet's relationship with msnbc. Now, if you think that msnbc is the only one having these problems, that's not true.

Speaker 1:

As we reported uh previously, massive layoffs are coming soon at c and n. The legacy media is dying. It's dying. Podcasts are taking over. People are waking up. The country is finally coming back around to what it was intended to be. We still have a very, very, very long way to go. We are not fully there yet, but this is absolutely a step in the right direction.

Speaker 1:

Here is an article from CNN, from the horse's mouth, his mouth. Cnn chief, mark thompson, announces sweeping overhaul of news network cuts 100 jobs. Mark thompson, the cnn chief executive appointed last year to modernize the news network, unveiling a set of sweeping changes to the iconic outlet wednesday, announcing plans to build a billion dollar digital business, experiment with artificial intelligence and overhaul key newsroom structures. The far-reaching measures with Thompson described staffers in a memo as a key milestone in the transformation of CNN will result in about 100 employees, or about 3% of the workforce, being laid off. Those employees, thompson said, will be eligible for severance packages. Since his appointment last year, thompson has been candid about challenges facing CNN, stressing to staffers that swift and dramatic steps are necessary to orient the television-focused news organization for a digital future.

Speaker 1:

Like other legacy media companies, cnn has, for its four decade history, relied heavily on carriage carriage fees from the traditional cable news bundle, a declining business that has been upended by the advent of streaming services such as netflix. While the company is still upended by the advent of streaming services such as Netflix, while the company is still profitable to tune the hundreds of millions of dollars each year pivoting the network's business away from contract and cable industry, which provides the bulk of CNN's revenue, to position it for the future will be an enormously difficult challenge. Interesting, interesting, very interesting, to say the least. Turning a great news organization towards the future is not a one-day affair, I would venture to argue. Cnn, they're writing their own article here and it's clearly just nonsense. You're not a great news organization, you are a propaganda machine for the left side of the political aisle. That's all that you are. That is literally it. You're nothing else they're talking about like. So when you hear 100 layoffs, you're thinking, oh, they're just going to lay off you know, the camera guy or the, or the producer or no, they're talking about laying off top talent.

Speaker 1:

Here is an article from the daily man, the daily mail. Cnn will axe top stars in layoffs. That'll that'll see hundreds fired as ratings continue to tank. Cnn is planning to wield the axe on some of its high paid staff after dismissal election ratings that cap off a disastrous period for the cable news network. According to an explosive new report from puck, network executives will unleash sweeping layoffs in a bid to save the network's flailing reputation. To come after the departure of star war chris wallace and, amid reports, senior stars like wolf blitzer and jay tapper, have both been denied raises. The highest paid stars, including anderson cooper, who rakes in 20 million dollars a year, aaron burnett six million and rising star Aaron Burnett $6 million and rising star Caitlin Collins $3 million.

Speaker 1:

In the next few months, I'm told CNN will implement another round of layoffs that will impact hundreds of employees across the organization. Reporter Dylan Byers wrote Friday referencing CNN's recent 100-person layoff scene over the summer. Recent 100 person layoff scene over the summer. The fresh round of firings that the insider said will be more geared toward the production side of things. As a result, reporters and correspondents will be required to cover their slack, they said, describing how an on-air workers will be asked to assume more of the responsibilities once handled by teams of producers and production assistants. It's a great day to be alive, in the words of travis tritt. Now the legacy media is not the only ones under just this intense scrutiny and ratings drop. There is also the View who has perpetually spewed just absolute nonsense on the air. Let's listen to this. This is Joy Behar talking about the media and the problem in the media, and her answer may surprise you.

Speaker 3:

That's why people like our show because they know.

Speaker 1:

Okay, first of all, I don't think there are too many people that like your show. This is a video for the New York Post. Joy Behar jokes about Joe Rogan believing in dragons.

Speaker 3:

Oh that we are checked by ABC.

Speaker 1:

News oh, you're checked by ABC News. Joy Behar, oh, so it must be legitimate. That's why people have confidence in you, that everything you say is checked by ABC News, got it?

Speaker 3:

Checked by everybody. Yeah, everybody, yeah, I mean, if we're wrong yeah, you're checked by everybody. Whoopi says we have you know the legal note here. Um, we went from walter cronkite, basically, to this guy, joe rogan, who believes in dragons. Joe Rogan, who believes in dragons.

Speaker 1:

What, what Believes?

Speaker 3:

in dragons. I checked it he believes in dragons. He believes in dragons. Did you triple source that? Yes, I did. And he also thinks that dragons, I guess like dinosaur-y type of animals, roamed the earth when people did.

Speaker 1:

That's your news coming from MSsnbc. That that's your news coming from msnbc. So joe rogan obviously thought this was funny and changed his um, um, changed his profile to a dragon believer, which I think is, which I think is probably the funniest thing on earth, and um it's I don't even know what to say anymore. But Joe Rogan, he, uh, here here's a clip of, uh, not a clip here's. Here's his profile that says Joe Rogan, dragon believer. Oh, you can't make it up. These people are incredibly out of touch and they have um, they have no, they have no sense of reality. They live in this incredible bubble. I think this is the clip, the clip that joey is referring to, and you tell me if this is joe rogan saying he believes in dragons. Do you think that holds any weight?

Speaker 3:

like, no, like, there's actually dragons.

Speaker 1:

The only weight that it could possibly hold is that, like a few of those somehow survived much later than we previously thought. It's so much cooler if there were. So he basically is just asking do you think that that's true? And this guy's like he's not even saying yes or no, he's just saying, well, maybe I don't know. He's not even saying yes or no, he's just saying, well, maybe I don't know. So it's. That's the legacy media. That's why people are running away from the legacy media and that's why. That's why CNN is going out of business, msnbc is going out of business and podcasts are going through the roof, which is a really good thing for America.

Speaker 1:

This is all about freedom of the press, which we talk about all the time as an individual right. Freedom of the press is an individual right. It is not the right of a corporation. Freedom of the press is an individual right. It is not the right of a corporation. It is the right of you to get a microphone and start your own podcast, start your own show and investigate the government and speak freely about it. I mean, that's literally what it's all about. It's your ability to write what you wish and think what you wish and publish your thoughts. That is why it is the First Amendment and that's why it's so important, and I would argue and I have argued, that that is what won this election was the individual right to speak freely.

Speaker 1:

The freedom of the press is what won this election, for the Republican Party and the left had made the critical mistake of attempting to silence it and exposing their hypocrisy and their tyranny towards anybody who doesn't agree with them, which is what actual, what fascism actually is, right, joseph Goebbels? I mean, yeah, fascism, hitler, fascist. Hitler was also a socialist, but nobody talks about that. You know, the national socialist party. We just kind of ignore that. And you know, uh, even though history doesn't ignore that, but the legacy media has abandoned the trust of the american people and they are gradually um, falling to pieces and and coming unglued.

Speaker 1:

Here is the meme that elon musk posts about the evolution of rachel maddow 1990, her high school photo just a a blonde, young, beautiful woman. Then, four years later, 1994, head half shaved, leather jacket. 2007, full blown, lunatic. 2010, business suit lunatic. And 2020, lunatic. And then 2024 is mark cuban. And mark cuban has just, you know, kind of fallen off the face of the earth after his humiliating defeat in this election, wound up on the wrong side of history, started going back through his tweets and removing them for his support for Kamala Harris. Yes, he's removed his tweets that came out supporting Kamala Harris, which is ironic. It is hilarious.

Speaker 1:

It is a beautiful time to be an American and we're going to follow this closely. We're going to see just where the media is going, what networks are going to survive and what the future is going to be for this country. Donald Trump continues to make his appointments and every appointment is like a massive wave of liberal tears rolling into our homes, and it is such a sweet, beautiful, relaxing swim in all of the liberal tears that keep coming down. We will continue to cover this and thank you so much for tuning in. Make sure you hit that like share and subscribe button.
